How many meters of ribbon do I need for my wedding car?

Luxury wedding cars and vintage wedding cars are both elevated by the addition of wedding car ribbons — whether you’re enchanted by simple V-shapes or elaborate bows. But how much ribbon should you order? And what length should you cut it to?

Today, we’re breaking down exactly how many metres of ribbon you’ll need for your wedding car.

The quick answer: standard wedding ribbon lengths by car type

Car typeRecommended wedding car ribbon length
Small saloon (e.g. Fiat 500)4–5 metres
Mid-size saloon (e.g. E-Class)5–6 metres
Large saloon (e.g. Phantom)6–8 metres
Stretch limo (e.g. Chrysler)5–6 metres
Hummer limo6–7 metres
SUV (e.g. Range Rover, Q7)6–7 metres
Vintage car (e.g. Beauford)5-7 metres

When you might need more wedding car ribbon

You may want to go slightly over the standard range if:

  • You’re opting for a more elaborate style like a full bonnet wrap, central bow, or flowing streamers
  • The ribbon is being tied into multiple bows or secured at extra points like door handles or mirrors.
  • You’re using a soft or sheer material (e.g. organza, chiffon) that needs more length to look full
  • The car’s bonnet is unusually large or long (e.g. Phantom 8)

When you might need less wedding car ribbon

You could get away with less if:

  • You’re going for a classic V-shape only
  • Your wedding car is a limo or supercar with a short bonnet (e.g. Ferrari F1 limo). Even though limousines are long overall, the ribbon only runs over the bonnet, not the full length of the car. And many limos (like the Chrysler 300 or Ferrari F1 limo) actually have shorter bonnets than luxury saloons or 4x4s.
  • You’ve chosen a structured ribbon like grosgrain or satin, which holds shape with less material

Top Tip: Even if you think you’ll need less, always order a little extra. It’s easy to trim down — but running short is the last thing you need on your wedding day. If you’re decorating the car yourself, we recommend buying double what you think you’ll need. Ribbons can come loose or blow away in windy weather. To avoid that, check out our blog on how to properly secure a ribbon to your wedding car.
